What keeps you going when things get tough in your business?
Being aware that I am operating in my given purpose is one of the things that gets me through tough times. Knowing my purpose gives me faith in what I do and why I do it. It is also the foundation for growing and innovating in my business. Once I discovered spiritual and professional purpose is one in the same and saw the success it brings, I wanted to share with other professionals. I want to see them advance in a career just for them. One that grows them - gives them satisfaction, happiness and better health. That motivates me. Helping the right professionals get in the right place, with the right set of diversified skills gives me a rush! It inspires me, especially knowing that I have a gift that is specifically chosen for me to share. Energizing audio and video clips with a tip or two motivate me too. It reminds me that someone else has been through this challenge and there are answers to get through to a more successful outcome.
Which people or books have had the most influence on your growth and why?
It’s hard to choose one person as I’ve grabbed so many soundbites and gained so much knowledge from countless individuals in my field and in my everyday life. Some of my favorite books include The Servant by James Hunter which reinforced the way I effectively lead my teams, Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson and Kenneth Blanchard which reminded me to stop going to the same place when my cheese is not there, and Expect to Win by Carla Harris which taught me a lot of soft skills that are necessary to win in business. I talk about great books for working professionals in my secret video on Youtube. Shhhhhh.
What would you say to a business owner that is currently struggling?
If you are operating in your professional + spiritual purpose, know that you have a Creator that will help lead you to where you need to go. You got this! Instead of feeling down, take the time to reflect on the “why” then find your “move forward” triggers that gets you excited. For example, is it motivational and educational video clips that give you tips and tricks to solve a problem? Is it a certain kind of music that sparks an innovative idea? Is it a chat with an accountability partner who will drive you to keep building? Is it a prayer that gets to the real core of the problem? Is it a haircut or new outfit that shakes you back to your greatness? Just as important, is your coach, mentor or sponsor available to help give you the lift you need to move forward? Everyone is not the same and every need is not the same when struggling, so ask yourself a few “why” and “what-do-I-need” questions. Then, boldly use that positive tactic to move you to your professional purpose in a huge way.
