What keeps you going when things get tough in your business?
My Papa keeps me going but also the promise of generations to come. I am currently building a legacy and empire for my future children, nieces, and nephews. My desire is to lay a foundation for them to see and experience. I want to show them what stepping out on faith to see your dreams become a reality looks like. To be completely honest there have been days when I just wanted to quit but I won't because they deserve better. I want them to travel the world and experience beautiful and amazing things in their lives. So, in the moment when it gets tough, and I want to give up I imagine what the moment would mean for me 10 years from now and how it will affect my family. Allowing one moment to take opportunities away from them is not acceptable so I push through thinking of them and not just of myself.
Which people or books have had the most influence on your growth and why?
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill has had a major impact on my life. I remember reading it when I was 18 years old, and the concepts were foreign. I couldn't wrap my mind around the principles because I wasn't ready for what they meant. I picked up the book again in 2020 and I was blown away. If I had to choose one of the points in the book that had the greatest impact it would be the little girl who would not take no for an answer. To me her fear of returning without what she was sent for was greater than the no she received so she kept asking. She didn't back down until she got what she came for. I live in a space of childlike faith so that story sparked something amazing in me. I often refer to it and it keeps me going. If she could step up, push through and keep asking so can I.
What would you say to a business owner that is currently struggling?
My advice to a business owner who is currently struggling would be breathe, take a step back, celebrate and re-evaluate. Sometimes as business owners we are too hard on ourselves. We don't take a moment and let all that we have really accomplished sink in. The unfortunate sickness of comparison can blur our vision as we are looking at everything and everyone else.
Breathe - Take some time to relax. Self-care is needed in order to maintain. Your mental and physical health is so important. Most people don't realize it until they are forced to.
Take a step back - Look at your accomplishments from a different perspective. Give yourself the credit you deserve for getting as far as you have.
Celebrate - Always celebrate small and big wins. They all matter because you worked hard for them and you deserve it.
Re-Evaluate - Take the time to make sure you are going in the right direction for your business in this season.
If something is not working its ok, try something else. There is nothing wrong with reinventing yourself and starting from there. Do that until you find your flow. I am the Queen of reinvention. It can be a beautiful process.
